We will be writng letters to Ms. Johnson and we will have a example right here. January 28, 2008
Dear Ms. Johnson,
Our class is doing a project where we will be learning to be better writers. We have heard that you like to write. So we have decided to write to you in hopes that you will respond. We have been inspired by the book, Dear Mr. Henshaw, by Beverly Cleary. The book is about a boy who writes to his favorite author. In the story, the author writes back to the boy and encourages him to write. We are hoping that you would be able to write back to us with suggestions on how to become better writers. You can find our letters by visiting our classroom wiki at www.mendellstudentwikis.wikispaces.com and click on the reading page or our individual student wikis. We know you are very busy, so we will understand if you can't write to us, but we sure hope that you can!
Fondly,

Dear Ms. Johnson,
Have you ever been asked the question, who are you? Well if you haven't then you really wouldn't think it would be a hard question, say a kid in pre-school would probably say well of course I am Bob Anders, are you stupid or something?? Or, maybe he/she would be thinking it in there mind, but truly to me I think it is a very thoughtful question, it doesn’t just mean what your name is or something like that.
After all this I will answer the confusing question that probably no one would like to answer, unless it was to brag. First and most obvious my name is Jonathan; I am not super popular or super nerdy. I am probably the shortest in the class, but many people say that I am smart for a small kid, I don’t mind that they call me small because they use in a friendly way. You could say if you knew me for all your life the most uneven kid in the class or maybe grade.
My origin is from China and I am the 2nd generation for my family to live America, but I still keep up traditions like learning Chinese, eating Chinese food, and celebrating new years. I am nice to most people who I meet but I do not recall bullying any people. I can be patient but I choose not to be sometimes, which kind of goes to why I get stressed out so much from the end of the day and really want to go home. That is the main reason I walk home every now and then.
I also not super rich or super poor. I do think that my dad is very strict, but he can be very nice. Then again he now says that I have to buy everything that I want with my own money, unless it is a special occasion, like my birthday. It doesn’t mean I can waste all my money on toys.
I think I’m special but not better than everybody else. The reason is that I have published a newspaper in my class and like everybody liked it! You can check it out at www.wesjonathan.wikispaces .com, when you get there click on Coffee Bean, that is the name of my newspaper. Also I solved one side of a rubix cube faster than my brother!
That is really all I can describe myself with this little time, please write back!
Sincerely one of the .1 twentieths of Mr. M’s class
Jonathan
1/30/08 Dear Ms. Johnson, What do I look like? Why do you think someone would ask that question, if you ask yourself what would you say? Just like the question who are you? A thoughtful question that can seem so obvious but if you think deeper than you will understand. Honestly if I were asked the question what do you look like in kindergarten and I just said I have black hair, I have brown eyes, and I and skinny, and I got it wrong than I would be overwhelmed like crazy. Well I will start, I have a very small body frame but I am not the smallest in the grade, there are only a few people who are smaller than me. I am actually so small that first to third graders are sometimes taller than me! I have brown eyes, black hair,
and a lot of stuff that most Asian people have. I have small about, everything. ButIdo have a long tongue and neck but then again those don’t really show because you don’t stick out your tongue all day for other people to see and you don’t extend you neck to itsfull height. Sometimes I imagine my head as a regular circle that god created and then put eyes, mouth, eyebrows, and all those other stuff humans have in the front of their face. Sometimes I don’t like having a round looking head; I like having shorter hair and having my head look more not like a circle. I don’t know why but I just do. I think I have a gift for jumping and climbing because I can jump pretty high and I love to climb. I think I would be a good spy or something like that has to do with running and climbing. Once in football I jumped onto my friend’s back and hung there until he fell down. When I was really young I looked like dwarf that is not fat or mean or has weapons like in lord of the rings…I think. Now I’m not as dwarfish but I’m still small. I never minded being small, anyway it is a family trait. J Fondly Jonathan the dwarf, JL
2/12/08 Dear Ms. Johnson, My home, all year round feels like the Sahara desert sometimes and sometimes like Vostok Antarctica. Mostly I like all the seasons except for summer. I don’t know why I don’t like summer, maybe because it gets way too hot. There a lot of trees from where I live, so in the summer we can relax in the shade. But it also has a downside, in the winter & fall if it gets really windy there is a risk of the trees falling down. For me I don’t see too many kids playing outside but once in while all the kids I know gather up to play a game called Man Hunt. Honestly to me I live pretty close to then school. But, the again it takes about 15 minutes to get there if you walk. I’m satisfied with my neighborhood, and I always will be. Fondly Jonathan,

Dear Ms. Johnson,
I have pets, but honestly I feel like I don’t, the pets I have are fish… boring, boring fish. The most interesting thing I saw my fish do was jump out of the water, but then again that is really amazing. I don’t think of them as pets because I don’t want them, so I never take care of them and leave that to my brother. A few weeks ago we almost got a dog from an adoption center called the S.P.C.A. but someone else beat us to it. The dog was a Shiba Inu that looked really cute to me when I saw a picture. On the day that we were going to get the dog I was not at home so when I got back I was really excited to have a dog but when I got there I heard the terrible news. Some one else got it. I had hit rock bottom, no dog… I went to play video games for like 45 minutes to calm myself down so I wouldn’t die from the suspense from not having a dog. But since I didn’t have I dog I at least had some fish, but then again they were really boring. Over the whole that I have had fish all of them died out for a lot of reason, here are some: biting each other, random death, sickness, and eating too much. One time, the fish died out so quickly that we had none for at least a month! To describe it… a Death Valley for fish. If I’m stuck with fish forever I will just have to deal with it. O so boring, boring fish.

Dear Ms. Johnson,
I’m usually happy about what I have to go with, but there are times I get a little picky. I’m more on the side of liking school, well, that’s where all my friends are, and I mean what would life be like without friends? At home there’s like nothing to do. At school you have a lot of privileges you don’t have at home. The few things I HATE about school, is that the lunch ladies are so mean! Once I forgot to sign up for lunch and I LOST RECESS. I don’t like the school sign up system. They should just order a bunch of the main entrees and a little less of the other ones. If there are leftovers they should ship them off to places that need them. The second thing that ticks me of is the music class that we have. Are teacher makes us sing a bunch of baby songs, in 3rd grade we sang a song called Hot Cross Buns, it was sooo lame! At least there are more good sides that bad sides, I just wish they could give nice people raises in their jobs and fire bad people.
